Information about GrAB and the Biolab (PDF, Images, Links, etc.)

Workshops: Workshops (Documents, Images, etc.)
Biolab: ongoing experiments in the biolab (Documents, Tables, Images, etc.)
General GrAB: other projects, Exhibtions, etc.

SUBSTRUCTURE:

  • BL… BIOLAB -> experiments that happen in the Biolab outside the workshops
  • WS… WORKSHOP -> experiments within the workshops (always put Nr. behind WS (WS1,WS2,…)
  • GE… GENERAL -> documents that are not related to specific experiments
  • MY… MYCELIUM -> Mycelium related experiments
  • SM… SLIME-MOLD -> Slime-mold related experiments
  • HG… HYDROGEL -> Hydrogel related experiments

WORKSHOP AND BIOLAB FOLDERS:
Within every WS and BL folder there are subfolders:

  • Images -> images
  • Documentation -> excel sheets and text documenting the actual experiments
  • Documents -> research and instructions from external or internal resources

PLEASE ALWAYS TAKE INFO LIKE WS, BL, MY, HG, GE and SM TO THE NEXT LOWER LEVEL:

Dear Andrej,

We got the Mycelium. Thanks!!
I just wanted to ask your advice since our last batch of oyster mushrooms
didn't work out as we hoped it would. (I think we left to much water in it
without poking holes in the bags for drainage. And I think the whole batch
molded.

We are using now your reishi mushrooms and we will use a different
substrate. Sawdust with a bit of straw added. - YOU NEED TO ADD NITROGEN SOURCE (10% OF BRAN, WHEAT FLOUR, CRUSHED CORN SEEDS - POLENTA OR SIMMILAR)

You stated before that the mycelium will need 65% of moisture. How can we
achieve that? -TO MAKE IT SIMPLER FOR YOU - YOU TEST THE SUBSTRATE WITH APPROPRIATE MOISTURE CONTENT LIKE THIS - YOU TAKE A FIST FULL OF SUBSTRATE. WHEN YOU SQUEEZE IT IN YOUR HAND REALLY HARD ONLY ONE OR TWO DROPS OF WATER SHOULD COME OUT OF IT.

We brought sawdust for rabbit cages. It is fairly well sterilized (they cook
it 20 min at 140° before sealing it). - IT WILL NOT WORK IF THE SAWDUST IS FROM CONIFERS!!!

If we now package it in 0,5 l bags combined with straw, shall we measure the
weight of the substrate and add 0.65 times the weight of water? (1kg
substrate + 0,65kg of water?) - NO - IT SOULD BE APPROXIMATELLY 0,6 WATER AND 0,4 SAWDUST (BECAUSE SAWDUST CONTAINS 10% WATER ALREADY)

Shall we soak the sawdust before we inoculate it? How much should we
compress the whole mixture? - THE SAWDUST YOU NEED TO SOAK, YOU CAN PRESS IT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN WITH YOUR HANDS. IF THERE IS WATER STANDING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BAG THE SUBSTRATE IS TOO WET.

I visited your webpage and it doesn't say much about how to grow the reishi
mushrooms on sawdust. - THAT RIGHT, WE SELL MYCELIUM PLUGS FOR LOG CULTIVATION.

Best regards,
Viktor

HOPE THIS HELPS

ANDREJ
